On Tuesday November 29th the WVFD was dispatched for a possible HAZ MAT situation. Engine 22 with 5 (Holden) and Response 2 with 2 (Hynson) answered the call. Units arrived to a commercial building with occupants stating a strong smell in the building. Chief 2 (Hynson)established command and assigned E22 the investigation group.
The investigation group found a vehicle battery that had overcharged and cracked. The battery was disconnected from the vehicle and the building was ventilated. No contents from the battery were discharged. After a second monitoring of the atmosphere and no abnormal readings were found, command was terminated, the building returned to the occupants and units returned to service.
